So I’ve been trying to get back into running again, only this time I’m trying to be a little more smart about it.  I usually blow myself out after a week or two, but this time I’m trying interval running using the Podrunner Interval series of podcasts to keep pace.  So far so good, but I don’t think I’m maintaining the proper heart rate.  And so I’ve ordered one of these:

Behold!

Sure it’ll enable to me to monitor my heart rate to the beat, but unfortunately I’ll have to wear the equivalent of a ribbon sized tube top in order to do so.

Not quite.

Yeah yeah. I was supposed to post pics and some thoughts on my new camera, but due to an unexpected bout of employment, I haven’t really gotten a chance to play with my new toy and it’s past its return date anyways so I’m stuck with it either way. Fortunately I like it.

Not much to say about the new gig other than when I get up in the morning, that feeling of not wanting to go to work is now due to me being lazy instead of me dreading going into work.

Looking forward to tomorrow. Grand Theft Auto 4 AND Popeye’s two pieces of chicken for 99 cents deal. Greasy XBox controllers and Cajun Sparkle? YES!

O, Economic Stimulus Check! Where Art Thou?

I saw Judd Apatow at an advanced screening of Step Brothers tonight.  The movie was a lot better than I had expected.  Apatow is on a roll.  I can’t wait for Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Pineapple Express.

Also I purchased a new digital camera today, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5.  So far I’m very impressed.  Pictures and notes to come.

I’ve also synced shoe size.

So it has come to this.  Out of boredom, I have finally figured out how to properly sync the contents of my address book to my phone.  And not just the phone numbers, there’s email addresses, physical addresses, job titles, the works!

It’s not like I don’t have places to be.  In fact, an old co-worker of mine is having a birthday party…for her 4 year old daughter.  I could be eating cake right now, mingling with young parents and their kids.  I could be wearing a silly and colorful party hat, secured to my head by a piece of elastic.

But this isn’t enough to drag me out of the house on a lazy Saturday late afternoon, which was preceded by a lazy Friday late afternoon spent beating the latest Tom Clancy installment Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 on the XBox 360.  One six five four eight seven.

Oh and look, UCLA lost.  Ho hum.

Went to a Lakers game the other night. Thanks to a friend’s hookup, I sat in the 2nd row, which is about as close as I’ll ever really get to a Laker girl.

Three point play.

Life has become far more interesting now that I’ve gained the ability to make frozen Slurpee-ish drinks with my Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker.

Backing Up The Mac

So I’ve been thinking about backup strategies for backing up my Macbook Pro. I already have an external drive attached to my desktop (which is essentially a server now) and can probably set up my Mac so that it mounts a network drive each time I jump back onto my home network using something like MarcoPolo and just use Time Machine.

Or I could look into getting an ExpressCard Media Card Reader and backup to SDHC cards, like tape.

External Drive Pros:
+No tape/card swapping means less human error.
+Can do full system-wide backup (need bigger external).

External Drive Cons:
-Must be on home network for backup to run.
-Drive overwrites itself, so limited long term archive.
-More expensive short term.

ExpressCard Pros:
+Can backup on the road.
+Can do long term archiving by pulling media card out of backup set.
+Adds media reader capability to laptop.
+Finally a use for the ExpressCard slot.

ExpressCard Cons:
-Can’t do full backups and can only backup up to 16GB increments.
-Possibly more expensive long term.
-How long does media last?

I’ll probably just end up doing both for redundancy.

New Toy On The Way

So I finally stepped out of the stone age in terms of cell phones and pulled the trigger on the Nokia E51.  I normally just get the free phone that comes with the phone plan, but now that wi-fi capable phones are more prevalent, I decided that I needed to purchase me a slice of the future.

Of course, there was always the iPhone route, but the E51 was about half as expensive (after applying all of my Amazon credit), less bulky, and less likely to get me mugged when I use it.   Also Symbian OS means more applications and for the iPhone to really consolidate my phone and iPod down to one device, it would have to have way more than 16GB of storage.Just need to see if it plays well with the 3G signals in the Valley and in Westwood.  Not that I really need it to, but it’d be nice if it did.
